Public bug reported:

I'm not real sure where this bug fits in, but I have had several
software crashes post live CD installation. I know that the crash
handler can catch a crash, but I'm not totally sure that it is with
Gutsy. When I have booted computer"S" with the live CD and proceeded to
install on several different computers, I have seen GParted crash and
was promptly caught by the crash handler. On each machine where GParted
crashed I instructed the handler to collect and report the crash. After
the install completed and re-boot into the new OS I have seen Synaptic
crash, and NOT get caught by the crash handler when doing the very first
system update. however I have seen no Synaptic crashes since the very
first system update after first install - The point is that I have seen
a crash that was not caught and reported, but no longer crashes. The
following applications also have crashed but were not caught and
reported: Compiz crashes often( ok, once a week) and needs to be
restarted despite the crash handler being active in the compiz-settings-
manager. why doesn't the system crash handler catch this ? GoogleEarth
just flat out shuts down when 3D buldings are turned on - I know that
this is a Google software problem to fix by them, however I am wondering
why the system crash handler is not catching this crash regardless of
application source ? firefox, I have seen firefox crash on numerous
occasions, yet no crash handler report to submit. To be more accurate
here I'd like to add that what I see looks more like an application
shutdown, not a crash and that may explain why no crash report, but why
are applications just flat out shutting down when they are being used. I
am not a skilled Linux user, however I am a very skilled software
engineer, I know what I am seeing when I see it and experience it, what
I see happening is an application just shutting down while being used as
if a close application command was issued, but no mouse event or
keyboard command was issued and no hint that a crash handler noticed
anything of note. There is no rhyme or reason for this problem, however
I can make it happen anytime I want on any computer I run 7.10 on using
GoogleEarth. I can't duplicate the problem with any other application,
but GE will demonstrate exactly what is happening visually with other
applications, application just vanishing with no hint of why.
