No, I'm sorry, it doesn't answer my question. Though, it may very well be more an issue that I disagree with. Why on earth would Ubuntu NOT want to collect information about crashes that occur with Ubuntu supplied software ? You have an automatic crash handler that CAN collect crash reports for Ubuntu supplied software but turn it off when everyone starts using the final product......I can understand the word "swamp", however this leaves the bug reporting population limited to experts and gurus in linux. I'm a user of Linux, I'm not an expert, I find it a royal pain in the butt to spend hours browsing this launchpad thing looking for something that resembles my problem. I have no clue what /var/crash is, however when I go to the System->Administration->Services application and see that there is an application called APPORT and that it is running ( I may have turned it on when I turn other things off like bluetooth off ) , I'd like to know why it is even there then if its not working. So why is Apport displayed in the services application and why am I amble to turn it on then ?
This in my opinion, is why it takes soo long to get corrections made and bugs reported. I understand that this is an Ubuntu decision, I believer it should be re-visited and Apport should be enabled to report application crashes and to include applications that Ubuntu does not provide so that the repo's can be prevented from showing installable applications that crash the system, or just don't work, like x-penguins applet - which crashes the desktop everytime it gets installed, but is still available for installation. -- crash handler not catching crashes https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/174195 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
