Correction for my last post: More investigation revealed that the issue IS harmless after all - the error message just happened to be the only message printed on an otherwise black and unresponsive screen for multiple seconds before a timeout occurs that after further research turned out to be caused by something else, not the decoding failure. Regardless of that the rest of my previous post still applies. (The "harmless message" exists and does not go away by following the steps outlined by others, at least for me)
