In response to my own comment, I'm still seeing that log about missing
"/usr/lib/cups/backend/hp"
But it actually exists (i didn't copy it)
~$ ls -al /usr/lib/cups/backend/hp
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 22832 Mar 31 23:51 /usr/lib/cups/backend/hp
Anyway as requested, "dpkg -l | grep hplip" output:
~$ dpkg -l | grep hplip
ii hplip 3.20.3+dfsg0-2
amd64 HP Linux Printing and Imaging System (HPLIP)
ii hplip-data 3.20.3+dfsg0-2
