This is consistently happening when closing and opening the lid or having the 
screen blackout as per power management configurations.

I found some relief by disabling all power management features involving
locking the screen and also disable ubuntu native screensaver.

After that, installed `xscreensaver` and confiured with password
prompts, which has its own login modal.

Additionally, after suspending but before opening the lid I detach the
USB hub with ext keyboard input and use the laptop keyboard to type the
password. It works most of the time.

Very annoying bug.
