Public bug reported: This is a bug on Ubuntu 20.04 (Focal Fossa) for pulseaudio version: 1:13.99.1-1ubuntu3.2.
Description: At random intervals, pulseaudio gives the following error message: "snd_pcm_avail() returned a value that is exceptionally large: 125388 bytes (710 ms)," after which the system slows down to a crawl. It has occurred in two instances: while playing a video game, and while working in two different workspaces with a zoom client and Spotify open (though not actively playing any audio). The system is recoverable with the SysRq key. I have not been able to duplicate it on command, but it is recurrent. The patch committed to fix this bug was reverted to fix a subsequent bug, https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pulseaudio/+bug/1767784. ** Affects: pulseaudio (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Attachment added: "See @ timestamp 13:52:49 for beginning of system hang event" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1881432/+attachment/5378818/+files/syslog -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1881432 Title: System hangs after pulseaudio error: "snd_pcm_avail() returned a value that is exceptionally large: 125388 bytes (710 ms)" To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pulseaudio/+bug/1881432/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
