Thanks for looking into this, and sorry for taking a while to get back
to you.

I've tried using the latest Hardy kernel as suggested, and it not boots
fine all the way into Gnome.  So it looks like whatever's caused the
panic is fixed.

However my wireless card doesn't seem to work with this new kernel
unfortunately...
