I`m the originator of this problem - The laptop seemed to hang/lockup at
certain points in the booting of the live CD - the loading progress bar
would stop moving. Unfortunately, I only discovered this after doing an
online update from 7.04 to 7.10 - which obviously installed the new
kernel (2.6.14?) I had to boot with the previous version of the kernel
(ended with 16 cant remember the rest of the version number, sorry) and
then I could boot into Ubuntu. My nvidia (6100go) would not work then
though - I was stuck with 800x480 res.

7.04 worked perfectly on the same laptop - the nvidia card/wireless
card/soundcard all worked fine with no fettling. 7.10 just didnt want to
play ball, so I've had to re-install feisty.
