I've tried Ubuntu 20.04 (5.4.0-33-generic) hoping it will be better. But it's not the case; i've encoutered the problem quickly, even without using Kodi for stressing the GPU. Here the problem froze completly the system; hard reboot is the only way out. Will come back to Ubuntu 18.04 and 5.3.0-53 generic. For info, here is the syslog with the problem:
