Public bug reported: Binary package hint: desktop-file-utils
desktop-file-utils should only be a dependency of ubuntu-desktop (and similar metapackages) and no other packages. The reason: I need to change the default file associations in an Ubuntu- based distro I'm making but as things stand now it will conflict with the Ubuntu version and will be overwritten if it is updated. If I change the name of desktop-file-utils to escape this problem I'll end up having to repackage every package that refers to openoffice.org (at the very least) and that's just crazy since it would mean repackaging dozens or hundreds of packages. If the ubuntu-desktop package was the only package listing desktop-file- utils as a dependency I could easily rename the package and change the defaults without worry. However the below packages are also dependent on desktop-file-utils: openoffice.org-common xdg-utils nautilus gnome-control-center thunar zim ufraw gpar I've read https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openoffice.org/+bug/70105 and can see why that change was made. Still, I'm hoping for a way to unlink the dependency. Would listing it as a 'Recommend' in the above packages help any? ** Affects: desktop-file-utils (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- desktop-file-utils has too many dependent packages https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/174301 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
