@Kai-Heng, I have my machine pointing to your kernel permanently and so
far so good with a cold reboot.

However, when I go to power it down or restart the machine hangs on the
logo screen, I have to hold down the power button to forcibly shut it
down. Is there something wrong with my GRUB? This is what it currently
looks like:

GRUB_DEFAULT="1>2"
GRUB_TIMEOUT_STYLE=hidden
GRUB_TIMEOUT=0
GRUB_DISTRIBUTOR=`lsb_release -i -s 2> /dev/null || echo Debian`
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=""

where "GRUB DEFAULT="1>2" is pointing to your kernel.

Also, please find attached message that appears on start up after a
forced cold reboot, incase you can't make it out it says:

error: can't find command 'humatch'
