The error message generated indicates that you have some very non-
standard settings in your smb.conf file:
PANIC (pid 10806): pdb_get_methods_reload: failed to get pdb methods for
backend opendirectorysam guest
Can you please forward the contents of your smb.conf file (in
particular, the value of the "passdb backend" line)? Do you know how
you arrived at having this nonstandard value in your smb.conf, since it
doesn't come from the Ubuntu package?
