As a workaround, I am happy to share my bash script that can be ran
using a keyboard shortcut whenever the touchpad may act up (have to log
in first), please see attached. To assign it to a keyboard shortcut, go
to Settings > Keyboard Shortcuts > scroll down to the end of the
shortcuts and add a new shortcut and type in the following as the
command:

pkexec /"path to script"/touchpad_reset.sh

and make sure script is executable, see
