IMO, we should not assume that upstream cared or not about py < 3.5. 
As William and I pointed out, we will most likely have to carry the patch to 
future release due to ESM.

I think that opening the discussion upstream to get their official
position on this might be insightful, and then we can see which course
of action to follow next.

(a) Upstream to merge a patch to remain backward compatible that we can 
cherry-pick
(b) Us to carry a "UBUNTU SAUCE:" patch for sshuttle
or else ....
