'Anyone tried a very recent kernel and can confirm the issue is still there [..]?' I tried 5.6.19, I think it was (so, moderately recently) and I can confirm the problem is there. Also, I've looked at the release notes for various 5.7 kernels and not seen a sign of the patch.
