Have you tried to re-install the NVIDIA proprietary driver with 5.4 kernel?
I saw you were using it with 5.3 but not with 5.4, maybe that's the cause.
lspci in 5.3:
08:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: NVIDIA Corporation Device [10de:1f82]
(rev a1) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])
....
Kernel driver in use: nvidia
Kernel modules: nvidiafb, nouveau, nvidia_drm, nvidia
lspci in 5.4:
08:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: NVIDIA Corporation Device [10de:1f82]
(rev a1) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])
....
Kernel modules: nvidiafb, nouveau
