I'm not the original bug reporter, but I stopped using my FireWire drives under Ubuntu 7.06 because in every case the drive would work at first and then become unreliable and then become unusable. HOWEVER I found that I could still access the data from an old machine still running Ubuntu "Dapper" 6.0.6.1. I opened Bug #134396 to report that.
Because I depend upon the data and was able to switch to USB in at least one case, I have been waiting to see whether anyone else could confirm the Firewire issues so I could explore the problem systematically. I have since upgraded to Ubuntu "Gutsy" 7.10 but have not tried the firewire drives recently. I hope Tom Womack sees this and maybe he and I can confer on the issue since we also both happen to have one of the same model drive. In his case, his problem might have been another issue with the drive -- one which Western Digital acknowledged as a defective FireWire cable. I have several other enclosures and all have shown trouble with Firewire but no difficulty with USB. -- Firewire drive not detected https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/105317 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
