Public bug reported:
If you have a wired connection and go to Network settings
(System>Administrator>Network), then select the network and click on
Properties, and then, in the General tab type an address (like
192.168.1.1) in the field Domain Name, your system will slow down to
unseen limits! You won't believe how much it slows down. Just booting
will take at least 10 minutes! And launchig an app will seem to take
forever!
Thing is, if you go back and delete the Domain Name it just won't make
any difference! The system will still be incredibly slow!
This has happened to me with both Ubuntu 7.10 and Ubuntustudio 7.10
