Public bug reported:
Ubuntu Linux 7.10 on a Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo L 1300 laptop.
I tried to put the computer into hibernation and the computer shut
itself down - as expected. When I booted up the machine it failed to
bring back the state in which it was in before it shut down - and was
terribly slow. Top gave the information that swap total 0k, used 0k and
cached 250 mb.
Swap is /dev/sda3 (around 500 mb).
swapon /dev/sda3 gave the error "illegal operation"
The situation was resolved by swapoff /dev/sda3,
editing the fstab to revert the changes made in edgy (references to disks
changed to UUID=...)
and then mkswap /dev/sda3, swapon /dev/sda3
