While the problem is happening, please run:
journalctl -f
and tell us what messages, if any, keep scrolling past.
Please also run these commands:
xrandr --verbose > xrandr.txt
lspci -kv > lspci.txt
journalctl -b0 > journal.txt
ls ~/.local/share/gnome-shell/extensions/ > localext.txt
and attach the resulting text files here.
Finally, please try closing all your apps except Terminal running 'top'
and tell us if that solves the problem.
