The problem is at a deeper level than pulseaudio. Removing it is generally a 
bad idea. If you need to reset the users settings:
rm -r ~/.config/pulse*

[  176.438897] snd_hda_intel 0000:00:1f.3: No response from codec, resetting

[  176.439057] snd_hda_intel 0000:00:1f.3: spurious response 0x0:0x0, last 
cmd=0x1270700

The best fix I have found for ^this is to go into the BIOS and disable
the audio. Save and reboot. Then go back into the BIOS and enable the
audio. Save and reboot.
