Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and trying to make Ubuntu better.
I checked the attached logs but I was not able to spot the cause of your problem immediately. I did notice you are upgrading your system to Focal and AFAICS your samba config file is outdated (it uses some deprecated options), my first guess is that the failure comes from some issue with your config file. Could you try to update your config file and see if it fixes your problem? As reference this is the smb.conf shipped within the samba package in Focal: https://git.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/samba/tree/debian/smb.conf?h=ubuntu /focal-devel I checked the source code and the "Error loading services" message is printed when trying to load the shares configuration and something wrong happens, which kind of corroborate with my initial theory. Since it seems likely to me that this is a local configuration problem, rather than a bug in Ubuntu, I am marking this bug as 'Incomplete'. However, if you believe that this is really a bug in Ubuntu, then we would be grateful if you would provide a more complete description of the problem with steps to reproduce, explain why you believe this is a bug in Ubuntu rather than a problem specific to your system, and then change the bug status back to "New".
