Since upgrading my linux-restricted-modules-2.6.22-14-generic ALSA has
produced a kernel Oops on boot. This will completely mess up the system
in many ways. If Firefox hits a web site with sound, Firefox will
freeze. Arts will keep creating instances until there are ~30 of them.
Knotify, amarok and anything else requiring sound will freeze.
Running `alsactl restore` or `alsamixer` will cause those programs to
freeze.
