in my case, audio was working fine but no camera was detected by the skype snap installed via ubuntu. Based on a hint I found elsewhere in the net, I did sudo modprobe uvcvideo a subsequent restart of the skype process was required and the camera was detected. Even if not directly applicable to the original poster's situation, maybe some readers may find this helpful.
