Note that I made the changes you recommended in those files and had used
it for a couple weeks, and it seemed to be behaving as expected. However
after the update to 20.10, it seems to have reverted the changes and now
my sound is broken again, experiencing even *worse* problems with
puleaudio 1:13.99.2-1ubuntu1. Now, after resume from sleep, all audio
devices except the internal SPDIF are missing, and never re-appear.

This begs a few questions: why is the priority order incorrect in those
config files, and why does pule reset it to the wrong values on upgrade?
what has changed in the newer pulse release that now it just messes up
my sound even worse on 20.10 than it was on 20.04?

I'll re-instate the logging and attach a new log soon.
