Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.22-14-generic
I swapped a motherboard/CPU underneath a working Gutsy x86_64
installation, and the kernel fails to boot, immediately rebooting within
2-3 seconds of startup (I think it gets to unpacking the initramfs, but
it's very hard to tell as things happen very fast). This is true for
the installed kernel on the drive AND for the kernel on the installation
CD. Both show the same behavior. Trying acpi=off does not affect the
problem.
An re-installation of the i386 distribution works just fine. The
problem is limited to x86_64.
I'll attach hardware configuration info as soon as I can figure out how
to attach files (maybe it has to be done after the bug submission?).
Summary:
Intel E6700 Core 2 Duo
Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L motherboard (Intel P35 Chipset) with latest BIOS
NVIDIA Geforce 8600GTS (worked fine with previous CPU/Motherboard)
