Thanks for the report,
searching the internet shows that this kind of bug seems to exist for many
years.
In 5/5 links that I checked developers/experts were unable to re-create and
users ended up disabling the database - just like you did.
:-/
I'm afraid without a more clear reproducer there isn't much one can do about
this.
I usually would recommend reporting it upstream IIRC amavisd is sort of
half-dead already :-/
If you happen to have a clear set of instructions to trigger this on a
new installed system that might help developers to debug. If you have
such please attach what you can to the bug.
