It appears that when the filter passed to `grib_dump -j` produces no
results, the output is just: `]}` (with a blank line preceding it.
... rather than what it should be, which I think is `{ "messages" : []
}`
Looks like it is just missing the opening `{ "messages" : [`
Easy to reproduce... just pass a filter than would never produce any
results...
grib_dump -j -w parameterCategory=909,parameterNumber=321 gfs.grib2
]}
