Similar situation. On Ubuntu Wayland. Using the normal Ubuntu dock, icons will disappear when browsing the web. Then, GNOME's performance becomes very poor. Constant lag, as if my DE is running at 5-10 FPS. Unusable until I logout/in again to restart the session.
