Public bug reported:
Just after turning on the computer, and Ubuntu finishes booting up, a
window pops up titled, Software Updater.
It states: Could not initialize the package information (in bold)
An unresolvable problem occurred while initializing the package information
Please report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and include the
following error message:
E:can not open /var/lib/apt/lists/-
us.archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_focal_InRelease-fopen(13:Permission denied),
E:The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.
I am using Ubuntu version: 20.04.1 LTS
Software Updater version: 1:20.04.10.1
Currently I am not getting any software updates. I expect it to function
properly.
What is happening is explained above.
I am very much a novice Ubuntu user. If there is a solution, please
explain it as you would to a 68 year old computer novice. Thank you.
