Hello Max and thank you for your bug report. The logs show that MySQL
couldn't start because a lock was already held:

2020-11-29T15:47:55.240238Z 0 [ERROR] [MY-011300] [Server] Plugin mysqlx
reported: 'Setup of socket: '/var/run/mysqld/mysqlx.sock' failed, can't
create lock file /var/run/mysqld/mysqlx.sock.lock'

and TCP port 3306 already in use:

2020-11-29T15:47:56.112537Z 0 [ERROR] [MY-010262] [Server] Can't start server:
Bind on TCP/IP port: Address already in use
2020-11-29T15:47:56.112995Z 0 [ERROR] [MY-010257] [Server] Do you already have
another mysqld server running on port: 3306 ?
2020-11-29T15:47:56.113836Z 0 [ERROR] [MY-010119] [Server] Aborting

This can happen when a daemon is started manually, without using the
init system helpers (systemctl). Did you try something similar before
performing the upgrade? In any case manually killing the "stray" mysqld
(or rebooting the system) should fix the issue.

I'm marking this bug report as Incomplete for the moment. Should you
agree this is not a bug in Ubuntu but a problem specific to your system
please set the report status to Invalid. Or if you believe that this is
really a bug, then you may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs
effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd
be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the
problem, explain why you believe this is a bug in Ubuntu rather than a
problem specific to your system, and then change the bug status back to
New. Thanks!

** Changed in: mysql-8.0 (Ubuntu)
       Status: New => Incomplete
