It seems almost always, maybe always, to be Ubuntu 20.04 suffering from
this bug. There's only one report from 20.10 and that might not even be
the same bug. So it's possible the issue was fixed in 20.10...

I've been trying on 20.04 again and still cannot reproduce this bug. If
anyone else can then please:

1. Reproduce the freeze.

2. Reboot.

3. Run:

   journalctl -b-1 > prevboot.txt

   and attach the resulting text file here.

4. Follow all of these steps to report any crashes in gnome-shell that
might have happened around the same time:
