1) The file I tried to open yesterday was indeed IMG_1809.JPG, and the
error pops up saying it is not a directory. I reproduced the error
message today in my system, so let me give you another log files today.

2) Yes indeed.

3) Yes, I accessed the files from the same system, as my system appeared
in Nautilus.

4) I made another shared folder in my home folder and the symptom was exactly 
the same.
Though I figured out something strange in the process. This time I tried to 
share 4 different files. 3 files (m4a, pdf, jpg file) were from my macOS 
system, and copied through samba protocol (I'm still able to write to shared 
folder. Unable to read it properly though). 1 file (jpg file) was a random 
macbook image from the internet. All 3 files from my macOS system showed as 
folders,  while random macbook image from the internet showed properly. I think 
I need to figure out which kind of files were affected...
