Public bug reported:

crash when grub-install this has happened when trying to install on a
pre-existing disk partition where ubuntu was already loadded. I have
formatted it. I have done this to solve a sound issue as with the
previous installation sound did not work properly. This is a bit
extreme, but there was nothing critical on this disk partition.Worth to
note there is already some other linux installation on the same hard
drive but in different partition.
