Of course that works. An even easier/better solution is to add the
official Virtualbox PPA so you also get updates.

..but that's not really the point of this bug here. Virtualbox is in the
official focal repo and so is the 5.8 kernel (as 'edge'), so they should
be supported. Their combination apparently causes an issue, so I really
don't understand how this is a "wont fix". Clearly it's possible to make
it work, the package from the PPA works fine.

I'm using the PPA as a workaround for now.
