Ubuntu 7.10 doesn't recognize this drive. At all. It doesn't come up in /dev/.
Nothing
If I add acpi=off boot parameter, the drive shows up, I even can write with it.
But the sound keeps skipping and the computer becomes unusable.
The device works is apm mode.
