Alright. In my case, the bug is with ipw3945 (or possibly ieee80211) because when removing them and manually inserting and configuring iwl3945, it associates and passes traffic normally. I guess this is just another manifestation of all the problems with the ipw3945 module.
According to this report: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.22/+bug/158045 ipw3945 seems to be depreciated. I assume that using the alternate will be the official fix for most of these problems? I don't know how my information affects the problem as initially reported, so please disassociate my comments if the problem is completely unrelated.
