I just found out about aticonfig (as the Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop uses
a Radeon Xpress graphics card). I used the clone & mode2 parameters to
change the xorg.conf file. This now allows both screens to display at
login & onwards. However, it would still be nice to see both screens
during boot. At the moment I only see the laptop's as I configured the
boot initramfs to use the laptop's resolution.

The wireless usb Belkin keyboard doesn't fully work in that typing a
character twice doesn't work for the 2nd press unless there is a
significant (approx a second) after the 1st press.
