Public bug reported:
Hi,
I am running ubuntu 20.04 LTS on my laptop and have had this issue of
the computer freezing ever since I installed this OS. When this occurs,
I lose all control of my laptop, and nothing but a hard reset will fix
the problem.
I believe that this is related to the cstate issue that is most common
in the intelbay trail processors (I've seen many forums discussing the
same issue). This is because when I pass in the grub-boot-parameter
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash intel_idle.max_cstate=3, this
issue never occurs. However, the issue has come up when I set
max_cstate=5; so I believe that the issue is caused when the processor
enters a cstate between 4 and 5.
The downside of this workaround is the degradation of battery life (it
does not last for 1/4th the usual time).
My processor is Intel Core i7-7700HQ @ 3.80GHz
