Same on a HP 2510p (intermittently, possibly timing-dependent).

Matthew Garrett tells me that "you can work around it by adding a script
to /etc/acpi/suspend.d that saves the value in
/sys/class/backlight/whatever/brightness and one in resume.d that writes
it back (do this after the video reinit stuff but before
65-console.sh)".  Presumably it would be harmless to add such a script
to the package to catch the various cases where this doesn't happen
automatically.
