I am also having this problem on a Thinkpad T450s with
OS: elementary 5.1.7 Hera (built on Ubuntu 18.04.4 LTS)
Kern: Linux 5.4.0-70-generic
The driver "restart" solution (sudo modprobe -r psmouse && sudo modprobe
psmouse) worked for me as well
