The same here, tested with latest ubuntu 20.04.2, xfce 4.14 & xfce 4.16.
Sometimes the password prompt is there when resuming from suspend, sometimes frozen desktop appears and it helps to write the password blindly without actually seeing password box or anything relevant. If you mistype the pasword, you can only guess, what is going on on the background, then it gets even more funny. Extremely annoying, it will probably force me to switch another desktop environment.
