Public bug reported:

HP printer with default HPLIP in OS.In Xubuntu 18.04.5, seamless automatic
addition of a multifunction printer right after plugging in and full out-of-box
printing and scanner functionality.
In Xubuntu 20.04.2.1 it does not automatically add, must be done manually.
After that, printing can be done, but printing is interrupted because the
device spontaneously disconnects from localhost or CUPS (I'm not knowledgeable
enough to know exactly), which is what the red exclamation mark in the printer
manager reports.
The scanner is broken - in Simple Scan 2 printers appear instead of one, like
in 18.04, both are ready to scan, but both options report unable to connect to
the device. Clearly related.
