Hi Dan,
this reminded me a lot about bug 1872527 and indeed it does when I tested it.
I tried the same stack of virtualization packages with non-K Ubuntu and there
isn't any issue.
So again it must be related to a bad interaction with some KDE components :-/
I'll mark this as a duplicate and carry over the info to the other bug.
