This is not about running in insecure mode, it's about the fact that you
are on an EFI system but the /sys/firmware/efi mount point that the
kernel uses to expose EFI nvram variables to the system is unusable.
We have had a number of reports of such problems but have yet to isolate
a cause.
Opening a bug task on the kernel, since this may be a kernel filesystem
bug.
