I had the same problem, but I was able to resolve it by re-installing the packages:
linux-image-2.6.22-14-generic linux-headers-2.6.22-14-generic Then I ran "sudo depmod -a" then I re-compiled gspca and thistime it worked ok when I ran "sudo modprobe gspca" -- FATAL: Error inserting gspca.
