Looks like the line in subiquity-serial.conf did the trick!
With this in place and as part of the Impish daily ISO (I used the image from 
today, July 2nd) I can now see the temp./random password again - and even more 
nicely at the end of the installer boot-up process - great !

I've attached the last lines from an LPAR as well as from a z/VM
installation console log.

I'm now happily closing this ticket as Fix Released - thx!
