Public bug reported:
I was downloading a two-part divx overnight so I left the computer on.
When returning the mouse worked so I assumed that everything was okay. I
opened one of the divx files by double-clicking, which opened gmplayer.
I got this error statement; Error!: Could not open/iniatialize audio
device --> no sound. I closed the window and watched a minute of the
divx. I closed the divx and opened the second divx the same way, by
double-clicking. The same error message was presented. I closed that
message and closed gmplayer. I renamed both divx files. I then opened
System:Preferences:Sound. Under Devices:Sound Events:Sound Events:Sound
playback I clicked test. Testing Pipeline:Testing opened. I heard no
sound. Using System Monitor:Processes I saw that gnome-sound-properties
%CPU was between 72 and 81. I clicked OK on Testing Pipline:Testing. The
Testing Pipeline:Testing window failed to close. System
Monitor:Processes:gnome-sound-properties remained at 72-83 %CPU. I
killed the process.

I have not re-booted which may solve the problem, but probably not
permanently.
