I tried:
"echo on | sudo tee /sys/bus/pci/devices/0000\:00\:16.0/power/control"
I also tried unloading mei* kernel modules.
However it didn't solve the isssue.

But it didn't help.
I am currently using the wireless adapter until a find a solution.
Sadly, the only solution provided by technical support was to re-install
Ubuntu, which I will do when I find free time.
