This reminds me of https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/casper/+bug/1925314 but - different box - that only occurred on low-res displays (not 1920x1080 displays that are used here) - it didn't blacken screen; xubuntu plymouth kept cicling without the 'press enter' message as it didn't fit on the low-res diplay
